The Dongfeng Voyah Free crossover debuted at the very end of 2020, becoming the debut model of the new lineup at the time, which was spun off into a separate brand. Initial version

The car is built on the modular ESSA platform of its own design, which implies the use of a 2-link suspension at the front and a "multi-link" suspension at the rear. Most of the chassis is made of aluminum, including both subframes. Another feature of the platform was the possibility of using exclusively electric and hybrid powertrains, which predetermined the presence of a "double bottom" in the car, with a niche for the traction battery under the floor.

The crossover was offered in two trim levels, differing in the type of power unit installed. The base versions were equipped with two traction electric motors, which, at peak loads, produce up to 680 horsepower and 1000 Nm. The range of such modifications reached 500 kilometers, and acceleration to "hundred" - in 4.8 seconds. An alternative were versions with a hybrid powertrain, using the same electric motors, but with a reduced power of 490 horsepower, to which a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with 109 horsepower was added, which is used as a generator, not being directly connected to the driving wheels. In this trim, the range increased to 860 kilometers.

Design and equipment

In terms of dimensions, the car is a "classmate" of the Volvo XC90 and Audi Q7, offering a comparable interior space and equipment. The front console contains three displays, one of which is a projection screen on the windshield. The standard equipment includes a multimedia system with the function of updating the software "over the air" and voice control, including a 4-zone climate control, as well as front seats with massage rollers and ventilation. Among the electronic systems, it is worth noting the presence of a large number of "assistants" as part of the adaptive cruise control.

Updated version

In the summer of 2023, the Chinese brand presented an updated version of the crossover. The exterior design has undergone minimal changes, the most noticeable of which was the appearance of a plastic spoiler integrated into the rear door, as well as other bumpers. There were many more innovations in the salon. The central tunnel was completely redesigned, losing physical control elements, which were replaced by a platform for wireless charging of two smartphones. The functionality of the buttons was integrated into the multimedia system. The front console retained its previous layout, but now all electronics are controlled by a platform based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon SA8155P processor. It also allowed the crossover to be equipped with a 4th-level Apollo autopilot from the Chinese company Baidu. With this addition, the crossover can maneuver independently within two adjacent lanes and pass intersections. In technical terms, the car has changed only in the hybrid version, where the gasoline power unit has become much more powerful, producing 150 horsepower, instead of 109 horsepower in the previous version. But at the same time, autonomy has increased significantly - up to 1000 kilometers without recharging.
