Tires on Datsun (Датсун)
The Datsun car brand is owned by the Japanese company Nissan. The first cars of this brand appeared in 1931. From 1958 to 1986, all Nissan cars exported outside of Japan were labeled as Datsun. The first discontinuation of the brand occurred in March 1986. It wasn't until 2013 that it was relaunched, but this time as a brand for affordable cars supplied to emerging markets. In 2019 and 2020, Nissan considered the possibility of gradually phasing out the Datsun brand, finally implementing it in April 2022.History
The origins of the car brand date back to the company Kaishinsha Motorcar Works, which in 1914 developed and produced a car called DAT, an abbreviation of the initials of the company's partners. In Japanese, it means "datto" or "to run like a frightened rabbit". It was thought to be a good name for a small car. The concept of such a car proved to be so popular that the company was renamed DAT in 1925. In 1930, the Japanese government issued a decree allowing the management of cars with engines of less than 500 "cubes" without a license. This forced the company to develop models for this segment, calling them Datson, "the son of DAT". Two years later, in 1933, this name was changed to Datsun.Datsun in America
Before entering the American market, Nissan did not produce passenger cars under its own brand, but only trucks, mainly for military use. During World War II, the company's participation in the Japanese military-industrial complex was so significant that its president, Yoshike Ayukawa, was sent to prison by General MacArthur as a war criminal, where he spent 21 months. For this reason, Nissan's management, when choosing in favor of Datsun, was guided by a desire to maximally distance itself from the undesirable associations that would inevitably have arisen if Nissan cars had appeared 13 years after the end of the war. Another factor was that American servicemen were part of the target audience for the cars planned to be delivered to the United States. These were affordable compact cars, coupes, and roadsters with a bright appearance. It wasn't until the late 1960s that the first car of the parent brand appeared on the North American market.Datsun in Europe
The first Datsun car in Europe appeared in 1935. Sir Herbert Austin sent the Type 14 to England. It was not intended for use on the roads or for production, as it was very similar to the Austin 7 Ruby, being part of a patent dispute. The first European market that Nissan entered with Datsun cars was Finland. The cars proved to be popular enough to occupy the largest share among foreign manufacturers in several countries, primarily in the UK in the 1970s and early 1980s, where more than 30,000 cars were sold annually. The popularity of the brand became the reason for its demise.Rebranding
By the 1980s, Nissan had formed a biased attitude towards the Datsun brand, which turned out to be more popular than the parent brand. As a result, a decision was made to gradually abandon its use. In the fall of 1981, this was first implemented in the USA, since in this country, the names of the main competitors, Toyota and Honda, had become household names. Ultimately, the rebranding campaign lasted several years, during which Datsun cars were still sold, but gradually labeled as "Nissan" and "Datsun by Nissan". The cost of this campaign was approximately $500 million. Nevertheless, cars of this Japanese brand are still on the move and require tire replacement. They are available for purchase in a wide range at the "Mosavtoshina" online store.Advantages of selecting tires for Datsun on our website
