The Romanian car brand has been owned by the French group Renault since 1999. It is named after the ancient Dacia, which was located on the territory of modern Romania and Moldova.

History

Until 1999, the company Dacia was state-owned. Its origins date back to 1952, when a plant for the production of spare parts for commercial vehicles was built in Colibași, which were used in assembly production in Brașov. In 1967, the enterprise was modernized, which made it possible to establish the production of passenger cars. Already at the first stage of construction, Renault specialists took an active part in the implementation of this project. The first car rolled off the assembly line on August 20, 1968. It was the Dacia 1100. In 1969, the assembly of the Dacia 1300 began, which was a licensed copy of the Renault 12. This model remained in production until July 2004, 35 years after the start of production, and existed in versions that were never available in France. In particular, in the body of a pickup truck with a single or double cab. The people called this version the "tapok". The production of copies of Renault models continued until the absorption by the French automotive giant.

Dacia Renault

In the late 1990s, Renault became interested in Dacia, at a time when the Romanian manufacturer was experiencing serious financial difficulties and was being kept from bankruptcy solely due to government assistance. To a large extent, this was due to the opening of borders after the 1989 revolution, when a flow of used cars from European countries poured into the country. In September 1999, Dacia came under the full ownership of Renault. The first few years were spent adapting the already produced models to the components of the French manufacturer, primarily engines and lighting. From 2004, Dacia completely switched to the production of budget models of Renault. We are, of course, talking about the well-known Logan on the Russian market and a whole line of cars using the B0 platform.
