Although the Alpin 5 did not demonstrate absolutely the best characteristics on snow and ice, this does not diminish their merits. They grip well on ice and snow. At the same time, on asphalt, their characteristics are one of the best. The braking distance on wet asphalt is excellent, on dry - average.
Finnish WR SUV 3 tires in this size turned out to be weak on ice and snow, which surprised us a lot. But how did they get to second place in the ranking? The fact is that they are very good on asphalt. We recommend them for use in urban environments and on cleared highways.
Gislaved tires also performed poorly on ice and snow. The imbalance of qualities was surprising: very weak braking on snow, but the best acceleration. On asphalt, these tires behave well and demonstrate a fairly high level of grip.
These crossover tires lag far behind the competition on ice and show average performance on snow, except for the braking distance on this type of surface, which is very good. The characteristics on asphalt are unstable: braking on wet asphalt and handling are "excellent", and the braking distance on dry asphalt is quite long.
Ukrainian tires with British design (as stated on the sidewall) and an Italian name turned out to be the most versatile among budget options. Their characteristics on snow and ice are high, weak on asphalt, but without obvious failures.
Cordiant tires surpassed their competitors in all winter disciplines and did so very confidently. But on asphalt, their abilities are very weak. Braking distances are very long, especially on dry asphalt. These tires are better used in regions where winters are harsh and roads are poorly cleaned. They are not suitable for highways and city driving.
The characteristics of Turkish tires are stable on all types of winter surfaces. But overall, the results are average or below average. They are quite suitable for operation on cleared highways or in urban environments.
Belarusian winter tires showed not the most outstanding results on ice and snow. In this case, they are slightly better than the typical "Euro winter". But the characteristics on asphalt are disappointing: long braking distances, weak grip on wet pavement. These tires are designed for harsh winters and uncleared roads.
