Tyre reviews Ovation VI-588 Sport 8

I bought this tire in April 2026. Balloons produced at the end of 24 (generally suitable).
Briefly for those who don't want to read a lot:
+ Holds very well on dry surfaces, better than Chinese competitors.
+ Good acceleration grip.
+ Quiet, definitely quieter than Triangle and Sailun.
+ Strong sidewall, like for 45 profile.
+ Despite the low treadwear (280), it potentially has good durability.
+ I can call the dry braking efficiency good.
- Loves to fall into the rut.
- Characteristics on wet surfaces drop catastrophically (despite the fact that it's not afraid of aquaplaning).
- Braking distance on wet asphalt is unpredictable.
- On wet markings, it's like driving on ice.
If you generally drive calmly and as soon as it starts raining, your inner speedometer is limited to 70 km/h, then you'll appreciate this tire.
Or you're a beginner in auto sports with a very limited budget.
In detail about the bad:
As soon as the asphalt gets wet, the minuses start to appear. It drains water well, the aquaplaning speed is predictable. If only one wheel is in a puddle, the steering wheel doesn't get pulled out of your hands.
But with all this, the braking efficiency drops drastically. If the steering wheel is slightly turned while braking, the ABS starts working immediately.
Emergency braking on wet surfaces is also not effective at all.
Handling also decreases.
It's better not to drive on markings at all and be afraid of them like fire.
Even on a 20-year-old, native to my car, Dunlop in the rain, I felt calmer driving.
Apparently, this notorious "Sport" was written here to later avoid questions about why the tire's characteristics on wet surfaces differ so much from dry ones.

Tread height is 7.6mm, weight 225/45-9.9kg. The tire is quite dense, even a bit stiff. It's still cold, but that's what it's for - sports. There's no 2nd gear slip. There are no vibrations, although one wheel has 100g of weights, maybe it will settle down and I'll redo it. As for noise on rough asphalt, it's audible, on smooth asphalt it's barely heard. I'll add more later…

excellent tire for its money, holds the road well, not noisy, relatively stiff, brakes perfectly, drives confidently on water.

Adding: after 2000 km, I tried to balance them, but nothing changed - 3 wheels needed 60g, 1 wheel needed 120g. While they were new, they didn't vibrate, but now after 120km, vibration starts in the steering wheel and through the body. On the balancing machine, the tires jump. They've become quite noisy. Over this mileage, about 0.5mm of tread has worn off, so approximately 1mm for every 4-5 thousand kilometers. Maybe I just got a bad batch, I don't know. Really, on the highway, I want to throw them away. Also, after standing still, it feels like driving on oval wheels. But the grip is not bad on a 4-wheel drive.
