Yokohama will build a plant in India

29 march 2012
The company Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd will build a new plant for the production of automobile tires in the suburbs of Delhi, in the state of Haryana. To this end, an agreement was signed with the Corporation for Industrial Development and Infrastructure of this Indian state, under which the Japanese firm is allocated an area of ten hectares. The deal took place three years ago, in April 2008, but due to the global economic crisis, the start of construction of the plant was postponed. The new plant, which will belong to Yokohama's subsidiary in India - Yokohama India Pvt. Ltd., established in 2007, will cost the Japanese company 65 million euros. It is planned that after its launch in 2014, it will produce 700,000 tires per year. The Bahadurgarh Industrial Zone, where the construction of the new Yokohama branch will be deployed, is located 45 kilometers from the capital of India - Delhi. This location is very beneficial for the company, as the international airport is located nearby. Also, the Haryana State University is located nearby, which will likely supply the plant with young personnel. According to statistical data, the capacity of the Indian automotive market last year was three million cars. By 2020, according to various forecasts, it should increase by more than two and a half times. In a statement by Yokohama, it is said that this was one of the determining reasons for the transition from importing automobile tires to India to producing them within the country.
