New Continental Plant in the USA
31 march 2012
The German company Continental officially started construction of a tire plant in South Carolina (USA) this week, laying the foundation stone during a ceremonial ceremony. It is expected that the new plant will appear in Sumter County by the end of 2013 and will be put into operation in early 2014. At the same time, the plant under the Continental and General Tire brands will release the first tires for passenger and light commercial vehicles, which will be actively used for primary equipment.
The production capacity of the American plant will be seven million tires per year. By 2021, it is planned to increase it to eight million tires per year.
This project will cost the company five hundred million dollars. At the same time, after the construction of the plant, it will be able to employ 1,600 people. As stated by the head of the tire department of the company, Nikolai Setzer, the construction of this plant is an important part of the strategy to increase demand for Continental tires.
By building a branch in South Carolina, the company will be able to simultaneously increase and fully satisfy the existing demand for Continental tires.
Recall that earlier, in 2011, the company opened a branch in China in order to cover the Asian market.
