Michelin closes plant in Mexico
The Michelin plant in Queretaro (Mexico) will be closed by the end of 2025, the company reported, adding that the decision is related to changes in the market for passenger and light truck tires and will affect 480 employees.
"The Queretaro plant will be closed as it is an outdated facility focused on producing small-sized tires, while the market has shifted towards larger diameter wheels and tires," the company said.
The Queretaro complex was opened in 1987 and is the oldest of Michelin's two plants in Mexico. Michelin also produces tires in Leon (Guanajuato), where a plant was launched in 2016 and is considered one of the company's most modern facilities in the world.
Michelin's corporate offices will remain in Queretaro, and the Leon plant will continue to operate, the company said.
Not long ago, a tire plant in Mexico was opened by the Chinese company Sailun, and now another Chinese company, ZC Rubber, is also building its facility in the country.
