13 may 2012
Former Bridgestone employee Xiaojun Wang is accused of stealing the company's trade secrets. He worked at the company from 1995 to 2010 and was fired after being caught writing insulting letters to a colleague from Japan. After his dismissal, Xiaojun Wang retained confidential information on his laptop. Among other things, Wang obtained secrets related to the development of new polymers for racing tires, plans to change rubber production, and much more.
According to Northern Ohio Federal Prosecutor Steven Dettelbach, it is extremely important to combat the occurrence of such incidents in the face of fierce competition. And FBI Special Agent Steven Anthony stated that eliminating threats to national security, which is the crime committed by Xiaojun Wang, is a priority area of work for the FBI, and collaboration with Bridgestone will continue in this direction.
Mr. Wang himself has confessed to the crime, as there is a large amount of irrefutable evidence of the harm he caused to the company. A court hearing in the case of the former Bridgestone employee is scheduled for May 18.
