Description Yokohama Geolandar G098A
All-season passenger tire Yokohama Geolandar G098A is produced in only one size – 225/65R17. This is due to the fact that this model was initially designed for the Mazda CX-5 crossover, which it comes with as standard equipment. Despite the fact that the tire was initially created for vehicles with increased passability, it has remarkable operational characteristics. This is partly confirmed by its high speed index V.
Z-shaped tread pattern
When developing this model, Japanese tire manufacturers paid much attention to ensuring maximum efficiency on asphalt coatings. That's why the tire got an original Z-shaped tread pattern, which has excellent performance both on dry and wet asphalt. It is characterized by a small number of tread blocks, mainly located in its shoulder areas.
The entire central part of the tread is occupied by two very wide longitudinal ribs. Their dual design has no breaks throughout its length. This allows the Yokohama Geolandar G098A tire to maintain excellent directional stability when moving at very high speeds. Additionally, the high structural rigidity of the elements in this part of the tread made the tire's response to steering wheel turns lightning-fast. This brought a sporty touch to the handling character.
The Z-shape of the tread pattern is formed by transverse drainage channels passing through the shoulder areas of the tread. Each of them consists of two rows of separate blocks. Their sizes are selected in such a way as to provide the contact patch with a sufficient number of edges without reducing the structural rigidity. This technical solution made it possible, on the one hand, to improve the efficiency of acceleration and braking, and on the other hand, to increase stability when cornering. This is largely contributed by the massive sizes of the shoulder areas, as well as the optimally selected radius of their profile, which allows maintaining the invariance of the contact patch area.
Main features of Yokohama Geolandar G098A
- the tire is designed for operation mainly on asphalt roads;
- two double longitudinal ribs in the central part of the tread allow the tire to maintain excellent directional stability at any speed;
- low rolling resistance, thanks to the minimal number of tread blocks, which has a positive effect on fuel efficiency;
- a large number of tread blocks in the shoulder areas made it possible to achieve excellent acceleration and braking efficiency, especially on wet surfaces;
- the large size of the contact patch provides excellent grip on wet surfaces;
- reliable and predictable handling in any conditions, thanks to the tire's high resistance to deformative changes;
- a meticulously selected composition of the rubber mixture with a high silica content provides the tread with excellent grip even on wet surfaces, as well as its high resistance to abrasive wear;
- excellent resistance to aquaplaning, thanks to the large volume of the five longitudinal drainage grooves.
