The Rosava WQ-101 winter passenger tire is a representative of a new generation of tire products released by a leading Ukrainian manufacturer. This model is produced in only 6, but the most popular sizes, ranging from 155/50R13 to 205/65R15, allowing it to be used on many models of modern passenger cars.
Tread pattern design
Despite the use of a classic V-shaped symmetrical directional tread pattern for winter tires, its design contains a number of interesting technical solutions. In particular, in the very center of the tread, there is a row of separate blocks of arrow-shaped form, abundant with a large number of sharp edges and angles. Since during acceleration, the central part of the tread is most involved, the arrow-shaped form of the blocks in this mode of movement is highly effective. In addition, the longitudinal rib formed by these blocks allowed for a significant improvement in directional stability.
Like the rest of the tread, its shoulder zones also represent two additional rows of separate blocks. These tread elements are characterized by massive sizes and a rectangular shape, which gave them high structural rigidity. In addition, the blocks of the shoulder zones of the tread are arranged almost at a right angle to the direction of movement, which, in combination with their rigid design, allows for a significant improvement in braking efficiency, especially on icy and snowy roads. Also, the arrangement of the blocks of the shoulder zones at a right angle significantly improved the tire's ability to overcome deep snow, which is never unnecessary on our roads.
Reliable traction on snowy and icy roads
Despite the relatively low cost, this model is distinguished by excellent operational characteristics in winter conditions, which was achieved thanks to the use of a whole complex of technical measures and solutions.
The use of a V-shaped symmetrical directional tread pattern made it possible to achieve large contact patches and their stability, regardless of changes in the characteristics of the road surface.
Thanks to the large number of tread blocks, the contact patch contains a large number of sharp edges and angles, which provides excellent traction, especially on slippery roads.
The block structure of the tread pattern led to the presence of a drainage system with a large number of channels and grooves, which made it possible to achieve excellent self-cleaning performance. As a result, when moving in wet conditions, and especially in snow, the drainage system easily copes not only with water but also with heavy snow masses.
Since the tire is not equipped with studs, their absence was decided to be compensated by a large number of zigzag-shaped lamellas. These tread elements have a narrow specialization, namely, the formation of multiple additional traction edges. These lamellas are cut through the entire depth of the tread, which allows for reliable traction throughout the entire service life. At the same time, their zigzag shape made it possible to increase the rigidity of the tread blocks by ensuring more reliable fixation of the lamella walls between themselves in the moment of contact with the road surface. In turn, the increased rigidity of the tread blocks made it possible to significantly increase the number of lamellas, and, consequently, the number of traction edges.
Another component that provided the Rosava WQ-101 tire with excellent operational characteristics in winter conditions is the rubber compound, or rather its three different compositions. This model is one of the few tires whose tread consists of several layers. At the same time, each layer is made of a different rubber compound, which gives the tread certain properties. The lower layer of the tread is the base, so it is made of a very dense and hard rubber compound, which allowed for a more even distribution of external load over the contact patch, ensuring uniform wear of the tread. This significantly increased the service life of the tire.
The middle layer of the tread is made of a more elastic rubber compound. The main purpose of this tread layer is to provide a higher level of comfort by smoothing out large irregularities of the road surface.
The upper layer of the tread is characterized by the highest elasticity and resistance to wear, thanks to the increased content of highly dispersed technical carbon and silica - a special silicate filler in the rubber compound. The elastic tread more closely hugs the road surface, which significantly improved traction, especially on snow and ice. In addition, high elasticity allows for effective smoothing of small road irregularities.
