The Nokian WR SUV 4 winter tire is used in crossovers and SUVs. It is adapted to operate on paved roads. Designed for the "mild" winters typical of Central European countries. This is why the model's strong points are its effectiveness on snow and wet surfaces. To this should be added such "signature" features for the Finnish brand as robust sidewalls and fuel efficiency.
The reliability of this tire is largely due to the optimized construction of the sidewalls. The rubber compound from which they are made contains aramid fiber. The material has excellent mechanical strength at an extremely low weight. Being part of the sidewall structure, it significantly increases their resistance to various damage.
The tread pattern of the tire is developed using Climate Grip technology. The classic V-shaped tread pattern contains several types of lamellas. Sinusoidal cuts provide reliable longitudinal traction on smooth slippery surfaces. Straight lamellas in the shoulder blocks increase the intensity of acceleration and deceleration in rainy and slushy conditions. Another component of Climate Grip technology is the rubber compound, which practically does not change its properties over a very wide temperature range. This gives the traction excellent stability in any road conditions.
The "bear claw" technology is also used in this tire. Drainage grooves of a similar configuration not only effectively remove water from under the contact patch but also increase traction with soft surfaces from loose snow. The so-called "waffle" effect is used here, in which the tread captures and compacts the snow in the contact patch. As a result, the traction properties are significantly improved.
Another feature of the drainage grooves is their very smooth surface. In addition to aesthetics in the external appearance of the tire, this solution has exceptional functionality. It significantly increases the speed of water removal from under the contact area, which reduces the risk of aquaplaning.
Main features:
- high sidewall strength due to the use of a rubber compound with aramid fibers in their manufacture;
- wavy lamellas increase traction on slippery surfaces during acceleration and deceleration;
- straight lamellas in the shoulder blocks provide more reliable traction on snow;
- bear claw-shaped drainage grooves improve stability on soft loose surfaces;
- polished surface of drainage grooves reduces the risk of aquaplaning.
