DescriptionDescription Maxxis MT-764 Bighorn
The all-season passenger tire Maxxis MT-764 Bighorn is another successful step by the well-known Taiwanese manufacturer towards creating the ideal off-road tire. One of the distinctive features of this model is the presence of a wide size range, represented by twenty tire sizes from 15 to 18 inches. This allows most passenger cars with increased cross-country ability to be equipped with this specialized tire.
As is customary for a tire designed for movement on unstable soils, the tread of this model is equipped with many massive and high blocks. All tread blocks are grouped into four longitudinal ribs, two of which are located in the central part. The configuration of the tread blocks is characterized by a large number of angles and sharp edges. This made it possible to provide the tire with excellent traction with various types of surfaces, including rocky soils.
Another feature of the tread block design is their two-tiered design. Thanks to this, it was possible to increase traction with the surface while reducing pressure on the ground. In addition, the ability of the tread to self-clean has improved significantly, which allows you to more confidently overcome muddy areas. The two-tiered structure of the blocks also led to an increase in handling responsiveness.
The design of the shoulder areas is original. Like the central part of the tread, its shoulder areas consist of separate blocks that are characterized by massive sizes and great height. These blocks have a multi-step structure. Due to this, it was possible to significantly reduce the likelihood of clogging this part of the tread with stones, as well as reduce the noise level when driving on roads with a solid surface. In addition, this configuration has increased the protection of the Maxxis MT-764 Bighorn tire from punctures and cuts.
The sidewalls of the tire have a structure that provides effective protection against aggressive effects. On their surface, there are special G-shaped reinforcing brackets that perfectly protect against punctures and cuts from sharp stones. In addition, these brackets form additional edges that have improved the tire's cross-country ability in mud and sand.
The tire carcass has high strength and elasticity, which are ensured by a multi-layered structure made of modern materials. The basis of the tire is a three-layered carcass, which provides the main bearing capacity. To ensure high strength, its design is additionally reinforced with a two-layer metal cord. Under the tread, there is an additional nylon layer, which is wound using a seamless technology. As a result, a structure was obtained that is distinguished not only by excellent strength and elasticity but also by high resistance to punctures and cuts.
Main features of Maxxis MT-764 Bighorn

- Exceptional resistance of the tread to punctures and cuts, thanks to a specially selected composition of the rubber mixture;
- Excellent self-cleaning parameters, due to the special shape of the tread blocks and a sufficiently large distance between them;
- Reinforced sidewalls with special G-shaped brackets, in combination with a multi-layered structure, perfectly withstand any aggressive effects, including punctures and cuts;

Previous summer tires AT Cooper Discovery after 60 thousand kilometers, it was time to change. I longed to choose between AT and MT. I clearly understood that on AT tires, it is much more comfortable on asphalt and dry off-road, but in the field, after rain, and especially in a hill, it's not much use. One day, returning from the dacha after a good rain, I was unable to climb a clay hill of 20° with a side slope, and here

The wheelset for the Montero Sport in 265/70/16 is quite good on dry roads at speeds up to 140 km/h, but on wet roads, the vehicle's maneuverability is severely compromised. When it comes to braking, the dry road braking is slightly worse than that of the Geolander G012, and on wet roads, the braking distance increases by approximately 20%. I'd like to note that the tire is quite loud at all speeds, but given its aggressive

Replacing the old Bighorn 762 with the new Bighorn 764.
The old one passed 40,000 km in a year and a half with a full tread, faded to the exact middle of the tread, and I really liked its softness and wear resistance, so I decided not to change the wheel brand or year by two or three years, hoping that this one would last as well…
The new 764 has the same softness at first glance
