The Marvix Arctic Lynx III is a winter non-studded tyre designed for passenger cars. The model stands out with an asymmetric tread pattern featuring a dense network of sipes and longitudinal water evacuation channels. Different geometries of the central and shoulder areas allow combining a high number of gripping edges with an extensive tread support surface.
Asymmetric tread pattern
On opposite sides of the tread, blocks differ in shape and in the direction of the grooves separating them. One side of the pattern features pronounced zigzag contours and angled transverse cuts, while the other has more straight longitudinal ribs. This configuration creates edges of different orientations: transverse edges contribute to traction and braking forces, while longitudinal ones help resist lateral displacement.
Dense network of sipes
The central and shoulder blocks are covered with numerous thin sipes. The sipes divide the working surface into small segments and form additional edges that interact with snow during acceleration and deceleration. Their placement across the entire tread width allows not only the centre of the contact patch but also the shoulder areas—loaded during manoeuvring—to be fully engaged.
Longitudinal and transverse channels
Several continuous grooves run along the tyre tread. They connect with transverse cuts between the blocks, creating a branched system for evacuating water and slush. Open shoulder channels at the lateral edges allow moisture to escape from the contact patch. The combination of longitudinal and transverse drainage paths is especially beneficial on winter roads covered with wet snow and thawed sections.
Support during driving and manoeuvring
Central blocks are arranged in dense longitudinal rows that sequentially engage with the road surface. Wide shoulder elements are located at the edges. They bear lateral loads during cornering, while the central section maintains stability during straight-line driving. Large grooves separate the main tread elements, while fine sipes add additional biting edges without turning the entire surface into small individual blocks.
