The Korean company Kumho has introduced its latest novelty, the Ecsta PS31, which belongs to the premium segment and is designed for use in sports-class vehicles. The tire provides improved traction with the road surface, excellent handling, reduced noise effects, and a prolonged operational period.
Traction characteristics
The first thing to note is the maximum allowed speed for which the new model is designed – 270 km/h (according to the marking). This indicator already testifies to the sports orientation of the tire. As for the tread, it is distinguished by its aggressiveness in combination with the directionality of the design. Additionally, a special rubber compound, High Grip Resin (a proprietary development of the company), is used, which contains high-dispersion silica and styrene-butadiene rubber. These features provide better traction characteristics, which are preserved even on wet roads. And the effect of traction is enhanced by the 4 longitudinal channels, which are one of the main elements of the water drainage system. Moreover, 2 of them have the shape of curved lines, which contributes to the increased speed of moisture removal from the contact zone.
Acceleration and braking
To provide improved traction properties, the tread of the novelty was equipped with a longitudinal rib of a solid type, which is located in the central part. This design solution allowed improving the traction and adhesion performance on dry roads, providing the car with quick acceleration and equally fast braking. In addition, the handling has also been significantly improved, which is essential for sports cars.
Warning of uneven wear
The use of modern computer simulation technologies has made it possible to develop a tire that has optimal pressure in the contact zone, which improves handling and minimizes the risk of damage when driving over bumps and potholes. Such a structure has allowed optimizing wear, which is characterized by its evenness. The latter factor contributes to maintaining all operational properties at a high level throughout the entire service life.
Protection against deformation
The longitudinal block groups on the tire are equipped with special sipes with notches, as well as solid elements. This design allows improving the traction characteristics in conditions of slippery roads.
To protect against deformational impact during intense driving and cornering, the outer blocks are made double. In addition, these elements are connected by bridges, which has resulted in a better response to the actions of the steering wheel without the risk of violating the shape of the tread.
Improved heat dissipation
To reduce heating during high speeds, there are square depressions in the shoulder areas that serve as a cooling system. They contribute to increased heat dissipation, as they increase friction with air masses.
