The Cooper Evolution CTT is designed for those who spend 80% of their time on asphalt, but don't want to back down from a "broken" dirt or gravel road to their country house. In the Cooper lineup, it occupies a niche between the highway series HTS (with a focus on quietness and handling) and the full-fledged off-road series. Here, off-road techniques have been applied, but the asphalt characteristics have been brought up to the level of premium passenger models. The result is universality, ready for any surprises from the road surface.
Special tread pattern
The basis consists of medium-sized rubber blocks formed into separate ribbed structures. These elements increase the contact area on uneven surfaces, improving grip on potholes and loose gravel. However, the key engineering is hidden in the geometry: each block is equipped with beveled edges — they effectively puncture the water film on wet asphalt. And the four wide U-shaped drainage channels that run along the entire tread turn the tyre into a powerful drainage pump. Wet roads cease to be a problem — the braking distance remains predictably short.
Deformation control
When braking, the tread blocks tend to "fold", which increases the braking distance. Engineers solved this with a patented design of an arc-shaped tread pattern at the bottom of the grooves with a central internal fixator. This technology increases the stiffness of the blocks in the longitudinal direction, not allowing them to deform under load.
Comfort and quietness
One of the main "pains" of off-road tyres is the hum at speed. Here, a comprehensive noise reduction system has been applied:
- uneven shoulder blocks with a variable pitch — they break up air waves that generate resonance;
- special bridges between blocks that dampen high-frequency vibrations.
Actual measurements show: the noise level in the cabin at speeds of 80–100 km/h does not exceed 65 decibels — this is comparable to the best representatives of the premium highway segment.
Handling and tread life
For confident behavior in turns, the blocks in the shoulder area are connected by reinforcing ribs-bridges. This increases the overall stiffness of the tread, ensuring trajectory stability. The continuous design of large blocks at the edges additionally enhances support in lateral loads, giving the driver sports-like steering precision.
As for the rubber compound, the CTT composition includes high-dispersion silica and special adhesive resins. This gives a triple effect: optimization of air flow resistance, resistance to wear, and preservation of elasticity at various temperatures.
