The winter non-studded tire Continental ContiWinterContact TS 815 is designed for the widest range of modern passenger cars. However, thanks to the universal tread pattern, it is also ideal for use in the off-season, i.e. in autumn and spring. This model owes its excellent applicability to its extensive size range, which includes several dozen sizes.
Asymmetric tread pattern
Like most other tire products from the German manufacturer, this tire is also equipped with a tread with an asymmetric arrangement of elements. This is due to the desire to provide the tire with excellent traction properties, regardless of the driving mode and road surface characteristics. That's why the tread consists of two main functional zones, the outer one "works" when maneuvering, and the inner one - when moving in a straight line. At the same time, the outer part of the tread contains three longitudinal ribs, and the inner one - only two. Such an unequal division is due to the incomparably higher load that the outer side of the tread is subjected to when turning.
Several types of lamellas
One of the characteristic features of the tread pattern of this tire is the use of several types of lamellas. On the inner side, there are self-locking lamellas of a wavy shape. They perform two main functions. First of all, ensuring more reliable traction on rolled snow and ice. When driving on roads cleared of snow and ice, these lamellas improve handling characteristics. When in contact with the road, their walls are tightly fixed to each other, which significantly increases the stiffness of the tread blocks.
On the outer side of the tread of the Continental ContiWinterContact TS 815, there are straight lamellas. They also perform several tasks. First of all, these are drainage functions. When driving on a wet road, straight lamellas, opening up, "sweep away" water from the contact patch, directing it into the drainage grooves. In addition, they provide the tread blocks with a more dense fit to the road surface, thereby increasing the contact patch area.
Excellent traction characteristics on wet and snowy roads
The tread pattern of this tire features five longitudinal rows of blocks of a quadrangular shape. Thanks to these elements, the contact patch has an infinite number of traction edges.
Low noise level
Despite the large number of individual tread elements, this tire has a relatively low noise level. This was achieved thanks to several design solutions. All tread blocks have rounded corners, which reduced the noise level generated by each block separately. In addition, the German tire manufacturers used a multi-step arrangement of tread elements, significantly reducing the level of resonant noises and vibrations.
Main features of the Continental ContiWinterContact TS 815 tire
- innovative composition of the rubber mixture using new polymers, plasticizers, and carbon compounds allowed to significantly improve the operational characteristics of the tire;
- the asymmetric tread pattern is distinguished by excellent efficiency, both on winter and summer types of coatings;
- massive rectangular blocks in the shoulder zones made it possible to significantly reduce the braking distance on slippery roads;
- excellent traction properties on snow, thanks to the block structure of the tread pattern;
- two types of lamellas provide excellent performance on wet, snowy, and icy roads.
