The Continental ContiCrossContact Winter tire is designed for extended use in crossovers and SUVs that are primarily used on paved roads. It is characterized by improved traction and braking performance on snowy and wet roads, ease of handling during maneuvers, resistance to aquaplaning and slushplaning.
The tread pattern features several important characteristics. One of them is the elongated transverse edges of the blocks in the shoulder areas. These allow for effective acceleration and braking on snowy surfaces. Another feature of the tread pattern is the presence of numerous lamellas. The densely spaced notches have saw-toothed pointed edges, and their vertical walls have a three-dimensional profile that fixes the lamellas in the open position when in contact with the road surface, while limiting the mobility of the blocks. The ultimate result of these designs is the reliability of traction properties on any flat slippery surface, as well as the precision of handling in such conditions. It is worth noting the significant volume, increased number, and multidirectionality of the drainage grooves. They effectively drain not only water but also its heavy mixture with snow and road dirt from the contact patch, allowing for reliable handling in the most unfavorable weather conditions. The tire's tread is made from a rubber compound with an increased "silica" content and special polymers that affect the compound's characteristics at the molecular level depending on the driving mode. This significantly improves most of the tire's handling qualities, including its mileage.
