Description Continental ContiComfortContact 5
The Continental ContiComfortContact 5 summer tire is one of the latest innovations from the German tire giant and is designed exclusively for compact passenger cars. The range of tire sizes offered by the German manufacturer, which includes 15 of the most popular options for wheels with a rim diameter of 14 to 16 inches, leaves no doubt about this. This has proven to be more than sufficient to provide this tire with excellent applicability to a huge number of modern passenger cars.
3D noise reduction system
As can be inferred from the name, one of the main distinctive features of this model is a high level of comfort while driving, which a priori implies low noise and vibration. To combat resonant noise, the German tire manufacturers have applied an original technical solution. All drainage grooves feature a number of transverse stiffness enhancers that connect all five longitudinal ribs into a single rigid structure. Special indentations were made on the surface of these enhancers, which divide the air flow passing through the drainage grooves into three parts. Thanks to this solution, it was possible to significantly improve the sound spectrum, the source of which is the air flow passing through the drainage grooves at high speed.
Optimized asymmetric tread pattern design
As mentioned earlier, the tread pattern of this tire consists of five main functional elements - longitudinal ribs. When developing it, German specialists sought to provide the Continental ContiComfortContact 5 tire with maximum performance in any road conditions. In particular, the presence of five longitudinal ribs allows the tire to demonstrate excellent directional stability even when driving at very high speeds. At the same time, two longitudinal ribs located in the central part of the tread have high structural stiffness, despite the presence of many V-shaped lamellas on their surface. Since these lamellas are located at a significant angle to the direction of movement, they can, without violating the stiffness of the ribs, additionally improve traction when cornering. Moreover, when driving in rainy conditions, these lamellas contribute to more effective removal of excess water from the tire's contact patch, working almost like windshield wipers on the windshield.
Excellent resistance to aquaplaning
Despite the obvious focus of this model on providing comfort, the manufacturer did not neglect other operational characteristics, especially those that affect the level of safety. This is particularly evident in the design of the drainage system, which is exceptionally efficient. The four longitudinal grooves played a special role in this, the large size of which allows them to accommodate fairly impressive volumes of water. At the same time, excess moisture is also removed through numerous transverse channels located both in the central part of the tread and in its shoulder areas. The direct lamellas located there serve as an effective addition, which, working on the same principle as conventional car windshield wipers, "wipe" excess moisture from the contact patch, directing it into the drainage grooves. Thanks to the large number of direct lamellas, the performance of the water drainage system has been significantly increased. As a result of all these technical tricks, a very high resistance to aquaplaning was achieved, which, in turn, made it possible to significantly increase the level of safety when driving on wet roads.
Modern rubber compound
Another distinctive feature of this German tire is the new rubber compound, which includes substances and components of the new generation. In addition, compared to previous models, this tire has an increased content of silicon-containing components. This made it possible to significantly improve the elasticity of the tread, which became more closely fitted to all the irregularities of the road surface. Thanks to this, the tire demonstrates a very soft ride and more stable handling. In addition, the fuel efficiency indicators have been improved, as the new composition of the rubber compound made it possible to reduce rolling resistance by more than 9% compared to previous models.
Main features of the Continental ContiComfortContact 5 model
- A very low level of resonant noise and vibration was achieved due to special indentations in the stiffening ribs located in the drainage grooves, as well as due to the numerous V-shaped lamellas located in the central part of the tread;
- The optimized design of the asymmetric tread pattern ensures maximum performance in any road and weather conditions;
- Excellent resistance to aquaplaning is achieved thanks to the high performance of the drainage system, which, in addition to numerous longitudinal and transverse grooves, includes a large number of water-draining lamellas;
- The latest rubber compound with an increased content of silicon-containing components compared to previous models, thanks to which the tread more closely fits all the irregularities on the surface of the road, thereby ensuring a soft ride and excellent handling stability.
