The base for the novelty was the Lotus Elise, only equipped with an electric motor. According to the manufacturer, the car could travel up to 400 km on a single charge, and it took only 4 seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h. Despite the successful project, the electric car was not particularly popular and was sold in a quantity of about 2,600 units. Its significant cost of $109,000 was a factor. Against the background of the crisis, the company decided to change its CEO, who became Ze'ev Drori. By improving the situation through production optimization, he left his post a year later, and Musk returned to the position.

Further development

Starting from 2009, a fund from the UAE, Daimler, and the US Department of Energy joined the list of investors. Against the backdrop of such support, the company updates its only model and starts promoting it worldwide. Also, in 2012, a network of original charging stations, Superchargers, was built, which allows charging a vehicle up to 50% in just 20 minutes. During the same period, the second representative, Model S, was released. A more affordable electric car that can travel up to 480 km on a single charge. The more popular car contributed to the development of production, which increased not only the volume of vehicles produced but also expanded the coverage area of its charging stations.

In 2012, another model, Model X, was introduced - a full-fledged crossover that also appealed to the public. It is noteworthy that the car was able to reach final consumers only in 2016.

The global breakthrough in scaling was 2016, when Model 3 was introduced - the most affordable version of the electric vehicle from Tesla, with all the advantages of previous models. At the start of sales, more than 325,000 pre-orders were received.

Present day

Now the company is actively developing its factory facilities not only in the USA but also in Europe and China. This is the reason for the widespread distribution of Tesla cars, which have also reached the Russian market (albeit not on an official basis). In the future, the manufacturer's plans are to release new models and improve the software that provides a high level of comfort management.
