The Russian automobile company TagAZ began its activity in 1997. It was then that the construction of the factory premises began, which were launched into operation the following year. At the initial stage, the production of Daewoo cars was planned. For this, a corresponding contract was concluded for the supply of components. But, due to the difficult situation of Daewoo, spare parts for the new plant did not arrive in the first year of work. Therefore, the equipment was idle and was mothballed.

Start of work

The first trial batch of "Orion" cars was produced only in 1999. But, due to the stable supply of components from Daewoo, production was stopped again.

To continue working, the company signed a new contract with the French concern PSA. According to it, the Citroen Berlingo will be assembled at the plant. As a result, the conveyor belt started working and the "Orion-M" model appeared. At the same time, an agreement was concluded with the Korean Hyundai to produce the Hyundai Accent.

In 2004, the production of the Hyundai Sonata was mastered, and in 2005 - the Hyundai Porter. Note that the commercial truck "Porter" became the most successful model, which was sold in large quantities and even received an award for the best transport for commercial purposes. As part of further cooperation, models such as Santa Fe and Elantra were produced.

Own developments

In 2009, the company mastered the production of two of its own cars - the Tagaz Master commercial truck and the Tagaz Vega sedan.

The following year, the company starts building a plant in Bangladesh. It also signs an agreement with BYD Auto to produce the F3 model on a full assembly basis. At the same time, the Vortex sub-brand is created, which releases several models from the Chinese Chery.

Period of decline

Despite numerous contracts with global manufacturers, the company significantly lost its position during the crisis of 2008-2009. At the same time, production decreased threefold, and there were lawsuits from banking structures providing credit services. As a result, in 2014, all the company's assets were put up for auction, and it was declared bankrupt.
Now the plant's premises have been acquired by "Rostselmash" and adapted for the production of agricultural equipment.
