History

The emergence of the Polestar brand is connected with the Swedish racing team Flash Engeneering, founded in 1996 to participate in the "body" championship of Sweden. Then it was sold and renamed Polestar Racing in the late 2000s. In 2009, the company became an official partner of Volvo and engaged in the modification of current models of the Swedish automobile manufacturer under the Polestar Performance brand. The cooperation was successful enough for Volvo to acquire the Polestar firm in 2015, starting to sell modified cars through its own dealership network. In 2017, it was reorganized into a joint venture between Volvo Cars and the Chinese Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. It was also announced that Polestar would become a standalone brand, focusing on the electric vehicle segment. In October 2017, the Polestar 1, a 2+2 coupe, was presented, the exterior design of which used features of the legendary P1800. The car was produced from 2019 to 2021. A total of 1,500 units were produced, with 25 being produced for a special edition.

Model Range

Currently, the brand's product line is mainly represented by exhibition specimens that regularly appear at various motor shows. Only one model, the Polestar 2, is in mass production, which is a compact liftback. In its initial version, the car is equipped with a rear-wheel drive transmission and one electric motor with a power of 299 horsepower. In the all-wheel drive version, another electric motor is added, which brings the total power to 421 horsepower, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. Within the next two years, the company plans to expand its product line with four more models - two crossovers and two sedans with equally impressive dynamic characteristics.
