Perodua Bezza has been in production since 2016. The compact sedan became the first in the history of the Malaysian brand to be independently developed. Until that time, the company was engaged in the production of licensed copies of "subcompacts" from the Japanese Daihatsu.

Initial Version

The debut model was only conditionally an independent development, since it was created on the basis of the subcompact hatchback Daihatsu Ayla. Changing all body panels allowed avoiding direct comparisons, as well as providing a very small car with excellent functionality and versatility in application. With a length of only 4150 mm, the volume of its trunk is 508 liters. The modest wheelbase size, which is only 2455 mm, was offset by the vertical seating of passengers. Another significant advantage was the equipment, unusually extensive for this segment. Already in the "base" version, the car offered two airbags, electric windows, anti-lock braking system, alloy wheels, and rear parking sensors. The list of additional options was highlighted by the presence of a full-fledged multimedia system with a rearview camera, keyless entry, artificial leather upholstery, stability control systems, and "start-stop".

The technical connection with the Japanese hatchback was traced by the engine range. Basic versions were equipped with a 1-liter gasoline "trio" with a phase shifter on the intake with a power of 67 horsepower. In more expensive trim versions, an in-line 4-cylinder engine from Toyota with a volume of 1.3 liters with a Dual VVT-i system, developing 90 horsepower, became available. Both power units were combined with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-range "automatic", also borrowed from the arsenal of the Japanese partner.

Updated Model

In early 2020, the car underwent a planned update. By this time, the model had received the status of a bestseller on the Malaysian market, with a circulation of almost 200 thousand copies. The car differed from its predecessor in its exterior, executed in a more aggressive key, due to the corresponding design of the bumpers, radiator grille, plastic overlays on the sills, and LED headlights. Among other innovations of the standard equipment, it is worth noting the appearance of turn signals in the rearview mirror housings.

There were far fewer changes in the salon. The front console, steering wheel, and door cards were equipped with silver plastic overlays, which revived the interior design. The basic equipment remained unchanged, in contrast to more expensive trim versions. Among the available options, an Advanced Safety Assist complex of the second generation appeared, which includes an automatic braking system with a pedestrian recognition function.
