At the start of sales, a 6.7-liter gasoline V8 of the Marauder family with a power of 330 hp was installed under the hood, which was not available for other Ford brands and was rarely found in cars of this brand. The model was created on an extended 3-inch frame platform from Ford with rear-wheel drive. The chassis was borrowed from the predecessor, offering a front independent suspension and springs "around the circle". The engine range was completely revised, remaining composed of gasoline V8s with 4-chamber carburetors, developing from 320 to 360 hp. But now the power units were combined exclusively with a 3-range hydro-mechanical "automatic".

Third Generation

In 1979, the debut of the third-generation car took place. It significantly conceded to the predecessor in size and weight but offered a comparable internal volume due to the new body with a high roof line and a large glazing area. The car was created on the basis of the Ford Panther, for the first time in the history of the model without any changes to the platform. The chassis also underwent revision, preserving the 2-lever front suspension but acquiring a more complex scheme of the rear suspension with 4 levers. The change of platform led to changes in the engine range, which was composed of power units of a smaller volume. These were gasoline V8s with a volume of 4.2 to 5.8 liters of the Windsor family developed by Ford. Initially, they were combined with a 3-range "automatic", which was later replaced by a 4-speed one.

Fourth Generation

The last generation of the model was presented in 1983. The car again decreased in dimensions, finally transitioning to the "mid-size" segment, replacing the sedan and station wagon Cougar in the production range. As before, the analog in the Ford line was the LTD, renamed to Granada the year before, using the new Fox platform developed specifically for compact sedans, implying the abandonment of the frame. In addition, the chassis changed completely, representing a combination of "MacPherson" struts at the front and a 4-link suspension at the rear. The engine range started with a 2.3-liter gasoline "four". In the "middle" level of equipment, the car was equipped with "sixes" with a volume of 3.3 and 3.8 liters. In 1984, a modification with a 5-liter V8 from the sports coupe Mustang appeared in the line, which had a suspension and brake system from the "police" versions of the Ford LTD. The power units at the start of sales were combined with a 3-speed "automatic", the exception being the "charged" version with the engine from the Mustang, which was available with a 4-range gearbox. In terms of equipment, the car completely repeated the analogous model from Ford in its most expensive versions of equipment, offering materials for decoration from natural wood and polished metal that were not available for it.
