Tires on Maybach (Майбах)
The Maybach car brand is part of the German concern Mercedes-Benz AG and is used in the production of passenger cars of the "luxury" class. It was founded in 1909 by Wilhelm Maybach and his son Karl and initially was a structural unit of Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH.Creation History
Wilhelm Maybach held the position of technical director of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft. In 1907, he left the company and two years later, together with his son, founded his own firm Luftfahrzeug-Motorenbau GmbH, the name of which translates literally as "Maybach engine production company". Initially, it was engaged in the development and production of engines for "zeppelins", and then for rail transport. The company built its first car in 1919 and was able to start its serial assembly in 1921. Until 1940, the company produced luxury cars and continued to produce high-power engines for sea and rail transport. During World War II, Maybach produced power units for the Wehrmacht's tracked and semi-tracked military equipment. After its end, the production of automotive products was not resumed, the company's enterprises continued to produce engines, and it was renamed MTU Friedrichshafen.Maybach and Daimler-Benz
In 1960, the company was sold to Daimler-Benz, and its production facilities were used for the assembly of Mercedes-Benz special series. At the same time, most of the operations were performed manually. The full-scale revival of the brand as a manufacturer of luxury cars occurred only in 1997. At the Tokyo Motor Show, a concept sedan was presented, and then, based on it, two models with different wheelbases - Maybach 57 and Maybach 62. In 2005, the 57S modification with a 12-cylinder V-shaped engine with a volume of 6 liters and twin turbocharging was added to them. Despite considerable efforts to promote the brand, cars did not become popular, either in Europe or in the USA, the main markets. From 2002 to 2013, only about 3 thousand copies were sold. In November 2011, it was announced that the brand's activities would be terminated by 2013, the last Maybach rolled off the assembly line in December 2012.Mercedes-Maybach
The decision to abandon the Maybach brand was unexpectedly revised in 2014, when its owner announced that the next generation of Mercedes-Benz S-Class would have a Pullman modification with an extended wheelbase, as well as other versions that were positioned as the antipode of the sports sub-brand Mercedes-AMG, but with a focus on luxury. In April 2015, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the Mercedes-Maybach S600 concept was presented, and at the Geneva Motor Show, it was already presented as a serial model. It was assembled on the same conveyor line as the standard S-ClassModel Range
Currently, the brand's lineup consists of Mercedes-Benz S-Class models, as well as the G-Class SUV and GLS-Class crossover, representing special modifications of these cars. The main competitors are Bentley and Rolls-Royce. They differ from the serial Mercedes-Benz in the range of engines, which includes only the most powerful versions. The exception is the markets of countries such as China and India, where Maybachs are produced, including those with 6-cylinder engines. The key difference is the suspension settings, focused on comfort, as well as an almost endless list of standard equipment, starting from heated armrests and ending with a Burmester surround sound system.
