The compact minivan was specifically designed and released by Suzuki for the Indian market. This happened in 1999. Since then, the model has undergone several modifications, remaining relevant to this day. The affordable and spacious car has gained popularity not only in India but also in a number of other countries (Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and others). Only on the Indian market, more than 2.4 million copies have been sold.Generation 1
The model, presented in 1999, was based on the Wagon R kei platform from the Japanese manufacturer. The car immediately gained popularity in India due to its large salon, the presence of a power steering and electric windows (at that time, these were attributes of a higher class of vehicles). A 1.1-liter engine with 64 horsepower and 84 Nm, developed by Suzuki, was used as the power unit. In 2003, an external modernization was carried out, as a result of which the radiator grille changed slightly, and the bumpers were painted in the body color. The car, during its conveyor existence, was sold in a circulation of 880 thousand units.Generation 2
A completely updated model was presented on the Indian market in 2010. The car increased in its dimensions, which positively affected the salon space. A 1-liter engine with 68 horsepower and 90 Nm at 6200 rpm was used as the engine. It was paired with a classic 5-speed mechanics or a 3-speed automatic. The car began to be equipped with an ABS system. But airbags and "fog lights" were available exclusively in top-end configurations.Generation 3
A new product appeared on the Indian market in 2019. The basis for it was the universal HEARTECT platform, which is used by the manufacturer for many other models. The car again increased in size, while the body structure was strengthened, which had a positive effect on overall safety. Under the hood, two gasoline engines were offered to choose from. The first of them moved from the previous generation and was represented by a 1-liter system with 68 horsepower, and the second - a 1.2-liter engine with 82 horsepower. It was equipped, like the first option, with a manual transmission, as well as having an "automatic" option. In 2022, a small modernization was carried out, which introduced a "start-stop" system, a new body color in two basic colors, a new interior trim, and updated 14-inch alloy wheels. Thanks to this, the model became even more popular, as evidenced by sales that exceeded 1 million copies.
Although the minivan is oriented towards the markets of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and a number of other countries, the low price and unpretentiousness in maintenance played a significant role in popularizing the model in other countries, including Russia. Therefore, the assortment of the online store "Mosavtoshina" now offers a rich selection of compact disks and tires that can be installed on the "Wagon R".
