Single Commercial Tires from Continental Receive SmartWay Certification
The list of tires certified under the SmartWay program of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has included the fourth Continental tire.
Single truck tires for trailers Continental HTL1 (Heavy Trailer Long-Haul) are designed for long-haul and regional transportation. The tread depth is 13/32”, which minimizes uneven wear and increases fuel efficiency, and the rubber compound was also designed to reduce fuel consumption. A unique feature of Continental HTL1 is the pyramidal stone ejectors that do not allow sharp stones to get stuck in the tread and thus increase the service life of the tires.
According to data obtained during tests conducted by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), these tire models can reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. In addition, they can save up to 3% of fuel compared to the most popular long-haul tires if installed on all three axles. According to the latest EPA research, Continental HTL1 tires meet these rolling resistance requirements.
The Continental HTL1 has become the fourth truck tire approved by the EPA, so now SmartWay certified Continental tires can be installed on all three axles - Continental HSL2 for the steering axle; Continental HDL Eco Plus for the drive axle; Continental HTL Eco Plus and Continental HTL1 for the trailer.
The SmartWay certification means that the tires can be used by fleet owners who are interested in reducing fuel costs. In addition, in addition to low rolling resistance, single Continental HTL1 tires are lighter than standard double tires, which also reduces fuel consumption.
Continental not only produces certified tires but also partners with SmartWay Transport Partnership as a supplier of goods and materials. For the first time, Continental joined this transportation partnership in June 2008 as a supply partner, once again demonstrating its desire to reduce the damage caused to the environment by road transport. Having joined the partnership, Continental agreed to participate in the FLEET (Freight Logistics Environmental and Energy Tracking) rating system and after a year the company received 1.14 points out of 1.25 possible.
