Yokohama will build two new special tire plants

Yokohama Rubber has announced that it will build two new plants for the production of tires for special equipment, which will be located in India and Mexico. Earlier, in 2025, the company acquired from Goodyear the business in the segment of OTR tires for $905 million, and the acquired production will be relocated, including to the new enterprises. In addition, new equipment will be installed for the production of super-large tires. 

The new Indian plant, worth $130 million, will be built in the state of Odisha, and its capacity will be 9,150 tons of products per year. Construction will begin in the third quarter of 2026, and the launch of production is planned for the third quarter of 2028. In turn, the Mexican plant will be opened in the second quarter of 2028 on the territory of the currently under construction complex for the production of passenger car tires in the state of Coahuila as part of the project for its expansion. About 10,650 tons of special tires will be produced per year, investments will amount to $115 million, and construction work is planned to begin in the third quarter of 2026. 

Yokohama is also transferring the production of OTR tires from Goodyear's sites to a plant in Romania, acquired in May 2025, as well as to its own enterprises in Japan, the Czech Republic, and India. 

"By creating a strong product line and expanding the production and supply of tires for special equipment of all categories, Yokohama Rubber intends to strengthen its market position and the competitiveness of its business in this segment," the company notes.
