In Russia, an increase in tire production is expected
In 2024, the predicted growth rate of tire production in Russia is around 5%, reported the Ministry of Industry and Trade following the visit of the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Denis Manturov, to the Kaluga region, where he, in particular, visited the Gislaved plant, which is part of the Cordiant tire cluster.
According to the agency, the current capacity of the Russian tire industry is around 70 million tires per year, which "practically fully meets the demand of the domestic market in the segment of passenger and truck tires", and "after the departure of foreign Michelin, Bridgestone and Continental, the main tire enterprises came under the control of Russian investors and continued to produce products, ensuring stable supplies to the domestic market and for export (up to 50% of the market)"
The capacity of the Gislaved plant (previously owned by Continental) is approximately 3.5 million tires per year. It is noted that the enterprise produces a line for such cars as Haval, and within the framework of the cluster, the development of tires for the Aurus project is underway - it was previously reported that Kama tires (with a puncture-resistant design) and Pirelli tires are supplied for Aurus.
"We see that the enterprise has already recovered from the temporary decline in production volume and the departure of the former Western owners. There is a program to increase production volumes - both in terms of product lines and nomenclature. We expect that the support measures that are currently being provided through instruments such as industrial mortgages, benefits for residents of industrial parks, and loans from the Industry Development Fund will continue to be used," noted Denis Manturov during his visit to the plant.
