In Europe, passenger car tire sales have increased

The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers' Association (ETRMA) has released data on the results of its members in the European secondary tire market in the first half of 2024, reporting that sales in the consumer sector (tires for passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, and SUVs) grew by 2% to 108.8 million tires. At the same time, while sales of all-season and winter tires increased by 17% and 8% respectively, the summer tire segment saw a 4% decline compared to the first half of 2023.

A negative trend is also observed in the truck/bus tire market (-5%, 5.3 million tires), whereas agricultural tire sales increased (+3%, 402,000 tires), and the motorcycle/scooter tire segment saw virtually no change (6.027 million tires were sold).

According to ETRMA Secretary General Adam McCarthy, last year the organization's members saw an 8% decline in consumer sector sales, but this year growth has begun, primarily due to high demand for all-season tires.

"The second-quarter results were better than at the beginning of the year, even despite the fact that inflation and the geopolitical situation led to a decline in demand and a reduction in inventory levels," he said.
