ADAC 2025 Summer Tire Test

The All-German Automobile Club (ADAC) tested 18 sets of summer tires in the size 225/40 R18, and 11 participants were able to receive good grades in the overall standings, but the rest had certain drawbacks, and one tire showed catastrophically poor results.

Tires of all price segments were compared, and for the first time in ADAC tests, two premium-class models — Continental SportContact 7 and Bridgestone Potenza Sport — were able to earn a "Very Good" rating for driving safety (70% of the overall rating). According to the testers, both tires have excellent grip on dry asphalt and provide optimal safety when performing emergency maneuvers, and there were no problems in the wet tests either, and Continental eventually took first place thanks to a good rating for environmental characteristics.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 and Michelin Pilot Sport 5 also took very high places, and Michelin stood out not only for its reliable grip but also for its high durability. Seven more tires — Vredestein Ultrac Pro, Yokohama ADVAN Sport V107, Firestone Firehawk Sport, Falken Azenis FK520, Nexen N'Fera Sport, Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2, and Toyo Proxes Sport 2 — also showed themselves from the best side and can be recommended for purchase, and four tires had certain difficulties. Ceat SportDrive stably behaves on dry pavement, but has drawbacks on wet, while Kumho Ecsta PS71 was effective on the irrigated track, but at the same time, they do not have the best grip on dry asphalt and limited resources. At the same time, Nokian Powerproof 1 also performed well on a wet surface, but their characteristics deteriorate significantly with increasing temperature, and on dry pavement, they lack precision control. The fourth participant in this group was the Giti GitiSport S2 tire, which has a weak grip on wet pavement and also the lowest wear resistance among all tested tires (predicted mileage — 33,600 km).

It was in the wear resistance test that the Double Coin DC-100 tires, which first appeared on the ADAC tests, showed a result of 74,400 km of predicted mileage. For such durability, Double Coin received the highest eco-rating in the test, and they were also the cheapest. At the same time, it is definitely not worth buying these tires, since, as the experts noted, although their rubber compound is so hard that it almost does not wear out, the tires can provide only a very weak level of grip. On dry pavement, the tires had pronounced disadvantages, and when the temperature rose, the grip worsened so much that "it was difficult to immediately find the correct steering angle when maneuvering". On a wet road, the tires, as stated in ADAC, "are completely useless", and skidding starts early, and when stopping from 80 km/h, the braking distance is about 45 meters, which is 17 meters longer than that of the leader.
