Sumitomo celebrates victory in the 2024 AXCR rally
The Toyota Gazoo Racing Thailand team, whose tires were supplied and serviced by Sumitomo Rubber Industries, took first place in the overall standings of the Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) 2024, which was held from August 11 to 17 in Thailand.
The winners used the new Dunlop Grandtrek tires, which were developed from scratch specifically for the AXCR, considered the largest rally in Asia. Before the race, Sumitomo said that the high-strength tires were designed to work effectively in any conditions, including asphalt in urban areas, dirt roads in the mountains, and mud when moving through the jungle, as well as not losing their functionality with a sharp change in weather. As a result, the tires confirmed their reliability, and the team had no problems with them, which means they did not have to waste time replacing a punctured tire.
In the 2024 rally, the crew under number 105 (Mana Pornsiricherd and Kittisak Klinsan) became the best at the end of the first day, but on the second day, due to a mistake in choosing the route, they gave up 29 minutes to the leaders and dropped to 17th place. After that, a fierce chase began, and on the fourth day, Toyota Gazoo Racing Thailand rose to second place, and on the fifth day, they regained their leadership, which they were able to maintain, winning the AXCR for the first time in seven years of participation.
