On September 17, the Chinese Sailun officially began construction of a new tire plant in Demak (Central Java, Indonesia), which is expected to improve the company's competitiveness in Southeast Asia and the global market.

Sailun's plans to open a plant in Indonesia were announced in the spring of 2024, and at that time it was reported that the $250 million enterprise would produce around 3 million passenger and 600,000 truck tires annually, as well as 37,000 tons of tires for specialized equipment.

The company added that Indonesia was chosen due to its good availability of labor and natural resources, "creating unique opportunities for the development of the tire industry".

Prior to this, ZC Rubber, another major Chinese tire manufacturer, also announced plans to build a tire plant in Indonesia. Both companies are currently building plants in Mexico as well.
