The most durable tires
06 april 2012
The French consumer association Que Choisir conducted a survey to identify the most durable car tires. A total of 34,000 car owners with an average age of 56 participated in the survey. The car owners were not only from France but also from Belgium, Spain, Italy, and Portugal.
As a result, Michelin tires topped this ranking with an average mileage of 46,918 kilometers. For comparison, the tires of the company that closed this ranking, taking 24th place - Nankang, have a mileage of 33,375 kilometers. The top three also included Goodyear tires (44,479 kilometers) and Sava tires (from the same manufacturer) with a result of 44,473 kilometers.
A pleasant surprise was the result demonstrated by Kumho tires - 44,092 km and the fifth line of the rating. Companies such as Pirelli, Continental, and Bridgestone were below the Korean firm in the list of the most durable tires. An unpleasant surprise was the presence of Nokian tires in the second-to-last line of the "top" of the most durable tires.
However, it is quite likely that the survey results are not the ultimate truth - at least because the same survey revealed that the French rarely check tire pressure. Only 26% of the respondents in France check the pressure once a month, and the overwhelming majority do it only a few times a year. And, as is known, maintaining pressure at the required level contributes to a longer tire life.
