Pirelli expands its range of tires for "Formula 1"
At the moment, Pirelli is working on new tires for Formula 1, which will appear in the 2026 season and will differ in changed sizes, and the first tests of the new rubber were conducted in mid-September with the participation of Aston Martin in Barcelona. At the same time, as reported by Auto Motor und Sport, the company has also decided to develop a new compound for F1 to "improve the level of safety and make the races more spectacular".
AMS writes that if the current tire compounds have codes from C1 to C5, then in 2025 a new super-soft compound with the designation C6 will be added, and thus Pirelli intends to respond to the constantly growing number of street circuits in the championship, on which high-softness tires should improve grip.
So far, prototypes of tires for the 2025 season have been tested by individual teams only on specially rented tracks, and in order to accelerate the development process and data collection, soon all drivers will evaluate the tires simultaneously within the framework of racing weekends. In particular, tests in this format will be held during the Mexican Grand Prix, where the second training session will be extended from 60 to 90 minutes. First of all, tires with C4 and C5 compounds will be tested, but Pirelli will also bring several sets of C6-type tires.
Pirelli was supposed to approve the tire design by September 1, but the engineers still have time to refine the rubber compounds, and the drivers will be able to test the final version of the new tires for the first time during the test after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final stage of the season.
