Pirelli, Nokian and Hankook have been included in the list of the most environmentally friendly companies in the world

Time magazine included three tire manufacturers in the list of the 500 most environmentally friendly companies in the world. The leader among the participants in the tire industry is Pirelli, followed by Nokian and Hankook. In 2024, Continental was also present in the top 500, but this time the German concern was not included in the list.

Time, together with the company Statista, publishes an environmental rating for the second time, and it is compiled based on an analysis of "companies' commitment to achieving sustainable development goals", taking into account factors such as participation in the UN Global Compact, etc.

Pirelli in 2025 rose in the list from 74th to 43rd place, and the company notes that "for many years they have been leading the most important ratings and indices of sustainable development in their sector". "Our corporate culture and business model imply the integration of ESG principles into the strategy, investment policy, and all activities of the company", said Pirelli, adding that "they achieve specific results, increasing their competitiveness".

Nokian first appeared in the Time rating and took 98th place, and the company's president and CEO, Paolo Pompei, noted that the manufacturer "has been a pioneer in sustainable development for over three decades", and the plant in Nokia (Finland) was the first tire enterprise to receive an environmental certificate in 1995.

"We are proud of our achievements and want our actions in the field of sustainable development to be as effective as possible", he said. "The latest example of our activities in this area is the new plant in Romania, which has become the world's first full-scale tire production with zero carbon dioxide emissions".

Korean Hankook rose in the rating from 417th to 187th place, and, as stated by the president of the company's American division, Rob Williams, "this progress confirms that we always pay great attention to sustainable development".

"We are extremely proud of our work in the field of sustainable development, and our E.Circle strategy lies at the heart of our activities", said Williams, adding that Hankook, as part of the development of new technologies, implements innovations that allow reducing harm to the environment.

"Our goal is not only to create eco-friendly products but also to make them provide optimal driving sensations for end-users, and the fact that we are in the Time magazine rating confirms the effectiveness of our work", he concluded.
