New truck tires: Continental HSL2 and Continental HDL2
05 april 2012
The German company Continental continues to develop 2+ generation automobile tires. The other day, new models were presented - Continental HSL2 and Continental HDL2. These tires, as noted by the head of the commercial vehicle tire division, Bernd Korte, are designed for long-haul transportation and are characterized by good handling due to the micro-lamella system, as well as high wear resistance. As for the first characteristic, it is this, as well as the improvement of grip on a wet surface, that was given the most attention during the development of the tires. Wide drainage grooves provide excellent braking and acceleration performance.
A unique rubber compound composition has been developed for both of these tires, which is part of the tread, which further reduces rolling resistance. In addition, the optimized tread pattern has made it possible to achieve an even distribution of pressure over the entire contact area with the road surface.
The other qualities of these tires are also similar. Thus, the new design of the groove in the under-tread layer of the outer shoulder zone of the tread guarantees the distribution of stress throughout the base of the groove, resulting in increased tread strength.
The tire carcass has also been improved. It has a four-layer triangular breaker, as well as a rim flange for a steel cord. Some sizes have a visual adjustment indicator, which allows you to track possible uneven wear and, as a result, increased fuel consumption.
These tires are designed for high loads on the front axle and can withstand loads of up to eight tons. The Continental HSL2 and Continental HDL2 tires will go on sale in May this year.
