Nexen began supplying tires for BYD
Chinese company BYD has chosen Nexen tires for two of its electric vehicles: the Seal 6 sedan and the compact city car Dolphin Surf. This is the first tire supply agreement signed by Nexen and the world's largest electric vehicle manufacturer, and the Korean company notes that the new deal will help strengthen its position in the original equipment segment.
BYD Seal 6 is sold in several key markets outside of China, making this model strategically important, and vehicles shipped to Australia will be equipped with summer UHP tires Nexen N'Fera Sport, designed to guarantee sporty handling and the necessary stability at high speeds, and have previously shown high results in prestigious European tests.
In turn, BYD Dolphin, supplied to Europe, will be equipped with Nexen N'Blue S tires, which, in particular, are distinguished by improved energy efficiency and were designed with increasingly stringent environmental requirements in the European market in mind. As the manufacturer states, in addition to reduced rolling resistance, which allows reducing fuel and energy consumption, the tires also have the ability to accelerate water removal from the contact patch and reduce braking distance on wet roads, which is why they were previously also approved for standard equipment on a number of other vehicles, including electric ones.

"By becoming a tire supplier for two electric models from BYD, we have demonstrated both the breadth of our range and our competitiveness in terms of product quality," said Nexen CEO John Bosco (Hyun Sok) Kim, adding that the company is able to offer optimal solutions for both electric vehicles and vehicles with internal combustion engines, and plans to expand its partnership with BYD in the future.
Nexen began supplying foreign automakers in 2012 and now collaborates with many of the largest clients in the global OE market, including premium European brands.
