Michelin expanded its range of truck tires
Michelin has expanded its range of truck tires with the addition of the Michelin X Multi Z2 and X Multi D2 models, designed for steering and drive axles of vehicles used in regional and urban transportation, with a rim diameter of 19.5 inches.
According to the manufacturer, the tires released in new sizes are characterized by versatility, can provide "excellent" safety in any road and weather conditions, and are designed primarily for trucks used for frequent delivery of goods on short and medium routes.
"Last-mile delivery can pose significant challenges in regional and urban transportation," notes Michelin. "Increasingly congested city centers and stringent environmental regulations make last-mile delivery a critical but often costly stage of fleet operations. Additionally, drivers face increased demands due to frequent braking in heavy traffic, as well as difficulties accessing certain locations due to poor weather or road conditions, and emission restrictions. It is in this demanding segment that the Michelin X Multi Z2 and D2 tires can realize their full potential, which lies in their long service life, excellent braking properties, all-weather versatility, and high load indices. Thanks to these features, the tires are ideal for urban and regional transportation and help fleet operators control costs while ensuring the necessary level of safety."
Internal tests at Michelin's technology center in Ladu (France) showed that the mileage of the steering and drive tires was increased by 30% and 15%, respectively, compared to models of the previous generation, which reduces fleet costs. Additionally, tests conducted with the participation of Dekra specialists found that the braking distance of the new Michelin tires with a tread depth reduced to 3.5 mm was shorter than that of competitors, meaning that the tires retain their effectiveness as they wear.
The fact that the tires can be safely used throughout the year is indicated by the 3PMSF marking (a mountain with three peaks and a snowflake), while the carcass design has been reinforced with nylon (Duracoil technology) to increase durability and retreadability. The Regenion technology was also used, which means that the tread pattern is self-renewing, providing high traction over a long period, while also reducing fuel consumption. The lightweight yet robust metal cord with improved corrosion resistance (Powercoil technology) increases the load capacity of the tires, which is particularly important for intensive use and operation on electric vehicles.
The tires also feature reduced rolling resistance, which, according to the manufacturer, allows for an average annual fuel savings of 705 euros per truck, while CO2 emissions can be reduced by 1 ton per year.
Another feature of the tires is higher load indices in the 245/70 R19.5 and 285/70 R19.5 sizes, with the latter having a load capacity increased by 300 kg to 6.3 tons per axle. This is due to the growing popularity of electric trucks, which have a higher mass due to the presence of batteries.
The new tires are available in 245/70 R19.5, 265/70 R19.5, and 285/70 R19.5 sizes and are designed for most global markets.
