Testing of "smart" truck tires

09 july 2012
Pirelli has completed the first phase of testing for its truck tires equipped with the Cyber Fleet system, which transmits real-time data to the driver about the condition of the tires. Thanks to this system, the tires are referred to as "intelligent". These tires allow for adjusting the pressure inside the tire, which in turn provides low rolling resistance and, as a result, fuel-efficient fuel consumption. Additionally, the wear of properly inflated tires occurs more slowly, which extends their service life. This system also allows for measuring fuel efficiency.

According to the test results, the funds spent on acquiring this technology will be "recouped" within six months of its use. Although the most important thing here is still not the economic aspect, but the issue of safety.

During the testing, thirteen heavy vehicles were used, each of which traveled more than 20,000 kilometers.

The results of the testing were presented by Pirelli's specialists at the recent Reifen-2012 exhibition in Essen.

The Cyber Fleet system is expected to go on sale by the end of this year.
