Gislaved will start producing 22-inch tires
In the fall of 2026, "Cordiant" will bring to the market the first Gislaved tires with a rim diameter of 22 inches. Tires from the One line will be produced in sizes with an increased diameter for large crossovers and SUVs, and their production will be carried out at the former Continental and Bridgestone plants in Kaluga and Ulyanovsk, using both the experience of the former owners of the enterprises and the company's own technological developments.
Cordiant notes that after the departure of foreign premium brands from the Russian market, tires with large diameters were practically not produced in the country, which limited the offer for buyers, and Chinese suppliers took advantage of this opportunity, which contributed to their active expansion.
Last year, according to the company, China accounted for 75% of tire imports, and "such a large number of Chinese tires created an 'illusion' of choice in the market and led to dumping".
"Low prices for Chinese tires are mainly due to the lack of important components for the consumer: official distributors in the Russian Federation, official warranty support from manufacturers, characteristics confirmed by research and independent tests. And in general, it is impossible to track the origin and history of many Chinese brands represented in Russia", - emphasize in "Cordiant", adding that with the release of 22-inch Gislaved tires, "a worthy domestic alternative will appear on the market - this is a landmark event for the industry and the holding".
The first tire in the One family was the winter studded One W, developed by Cordiant itself and the Intair Research and Development Center, which is part of it. The novelty will be available starting from the fall of this year, and the line will include 75 sizes from 16 to 22 inches.
"The launch of a new rim diameter is not a common practice for manufacturers, as it requires serious financial and technological investments, - the company notes. - This strategic step was the holding "Cordiant"'s response to the demand formed by car owners. International experience and engineering solutions of the former Continental and Bridgestone enterprises, as well as the holding's own technological developments, will make it possible to complete the development of 22-inch tires and consolidate the Gislaved brand's position in the premium segment".
Cordiant also adds that currently, the winter range of Gislaved tires covers 92% of the main Russian car fleet and 85% of new passenger cars.
