If the tire is missing "TREADWEAR"?

When buying tires, of course, everyone wants to buy the best tires in every way, but that doesn't exist. A tire is a technically complex product with a whole range of characteristics, and one half of these characteristics directly contradicts the other. Resource is no exception, and a number of characteristics related to traction and handling are significantly increased if the manufacturer reduces the tire's resource. But what if you don't care about such parameters as high-speed traction or effective handling. How to choose a tire with high resource?

At the selection stage, many begin to look for secret markings, not trusting the manufacturers' statements. In these searches, of course, you will inevitably come across such a marking as "TREADWEAR". We have already told you what this marking indicates and why it's better not to pay attention to it in a separate article, but still, if you intend to find a tire with the highest "TREADWEAR", you may be surprised to find that some tires simply don't have it. The inscription may be there, but the numbers are not. Does this mean that you have a counterfeit in your hands? Of course not. We have already written that counterfeits in the world of tires look different.

The thing is that the "TREADWEAR" marking is present on the tire only at the request of one organization - the Department of Transportation, or as it is indicated on the tire, "DOT". Yes, for many, this is also a surprise. The DOT marking can also be absent, precisely if it is absent, then "TREADWEAR" is also absent. This does not mean that something is wrong with the tire, it simply means that it is not intended for the US market. Maybe only for now, and the certification process is underway, or maybe it's not planned to be supplied at all. In this case, there is no need to obtain a sales permit on the territory of the USA.

We have already written about the fact that the "TREADWEAR" marking most often confuses rather than provides useful information. It is worth following the recommendations of the tire manufacturer and driving principles for extending the life of tires.
