Cooper revealed details about new summer tires
After Goodyear sold the rights to the Dunlop brand in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) to Japanese Sumitomo, the key brand of the company in the middle price segment of the local market became Cooper Tires, under which a new summer tire Cooper Summer was presented this season, designed for both passenger cars and crossovers.
The tread pattern was borrowed from the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 tires, presented in 2015, and the manufacturer claims that the Cooper Summer has three main advantages that play a key role in the summer segment, namely improved economy, good braking properties on wet roads, and a long tread life.
To improve energy efficiency, the tires were equipped with a lightweight construction made from modern materials, which, according to the company, made it possible to reduce rolling resistance without compromising high-speed stability. In addition, the rubber compound has also been improved for better economy, and Cooper emphasizes that in all sizes, the tires are optimally suited for use on electric cars.
To ensure the necessary grip in various conditions, an asymmetric tread pattern with wide grooves that drain water and reduce the risk of aquaplaning was used, while large blocks in the outer shoulder area increase stability during maneuvering. Additionally, reinforced ribs and a balanced contact patch reduce uneven wear, a special rubber compound is designed to maintain optimal tread stiffness throughout the life of the tire, which maintains stable braking efficiency and handling, and the carcass design is designed to increase strength while providing good ride smoothness.

"When creating Cooper Summer, we set a goal to develop summer tires that you can rely on in any situation," said Ben Glaser, Technical Director of Goodyear in EMEA, responsible for the development of tires for the consumer sector. "The priority was the three most important parameters - economy, confident braking in the rain, and tread durability - and we sought to make all elements interact to improve them. From the asymmetric tread pattern to the lightweight but strong carcass - all aspects are optimized to provide an excellent balance of characteristics without significant drawbacks."
Cooper Summer has already participated in independent tests, and according to the results of the tests of size 195/55 R16 by the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport took seventh place, receiving a rating of "Good" due to safe handling on wet and dry surfaces, which is combined with excellent resistance to aquaplaning and a high level of comfort.
"As part of a comparison with products from other brands, Cooper Summer have demonstrated their competitiveness in the segment of affordable tires, as they work reliably when it really matters," the company said.
Cooper Summer entered the European market in 162 sizes with a diameter from 14 to 21 inches.
