Continental to increase passenger tire production in India

The company Continental, which recently announced that it would stop producing truck tires in India, has stated that as part of its new strategy, it will invest around 1 billion rupees (12 million dollars) in expanding its capacity for producing passenger car tires in the country.

The funds will be used both to increase production and to expand the range of passenger and light truck tires designed with the needs of Indian drivers in mind, the company noted.

In India, Continental produces passenger car tires at its plant in Modipuram (Uttar Pradesh state), and this year the local market will see the introduction of a new all-terrain tire called the Continental CrossContact AT2.

"We are adapting our product portfolio to the changing lifestyle of Indian drivers, including their expectations for comfort and safety," said Samir Gupta, Managing Director of Continental Tires India.

The Indian branch of Continental expects significant growth in sales of large-size tires and UHP tires for SUVs and sports cars, which "fully corresponds to current market trends".

Continental also notes that India remains a strategically important market for the company in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly given the growth in demand for SUVs and premium vehicles.

Continental's retail network in India includes over 200 branded stores.
