Continental has expanded its plant in Thailand
Continental held a ceremonial event to mark the official completion of the project to expand the tire plant in Thailand's Rayong province. The investment was around 300 million euros, and the plant's capacity increased by 3 million passenger and light truck tires per year, and the production of motorcycle tires with radial construction was also launched.
The Rayong plant was launched in 2019 and initially produced passenger and light truck tires, and in 2021, diagonal motorcycle tires were added to the range. Currently, the plant produces premium-class car tires, such as the sports Continental MaxContact MC7, which, like other models of the brand, were adapted for use on electric vehicles, thanks to which in 2025 Continental cooperated with seven out of ten largest electric car manufacturers in the region. In addition, the plant is one of the largest Continental sites for the production of motorcycle tires in the world.
According to Christian Koetz, CEO of Continental, the plant in Thailand is an important component of the company's global production network. "With the new capacities, we will be able to further expand our capabilities to supply customers in the APAC region with high-quality locally produced automotive and motorcycle tires," he said.
The head of the local tire department of Continental, Dalibor Kalina, added that the Asia-Pacific market is dynamically developing and is of great importance for ensuring the company's growth in the long term. "We strive to develop our success in the local market and continue to grow in the UHP tire segment, — he said. — We have excellent positions in the sports tire sector, and we are also expanding the range of tires for crossovers and SUVs, developed with regard to the changing lifestyle of consumers. By launching new capacities, we will be able to respond more quickly to changes in driver requests and continue to increase sales across the Asia-Pacific region".
The plant will continue to produce diagonal motorcycle tires, and the company says that the expansion of the line will allow them to effectively meet demand in various market segments, and currently, the plant is already producing radial tires for sports touring motorcycles, as well as diagonal tires for tour-enduro.
