Continental is recalling 542 all-season passenger tires General Altimax RT45 of size 235/60 R18 in the USA, which may have been subjected to excessive vulcanization during production, creating a risk of tread separation or sidewall rupture, which can lead to a sudden loss of pressure and increase the risk of an accident, according to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The tires were manufactured at a plant in Korbach (Germany) during the 31st week of 2024, and the NHTSA notes that they may develop noticeable bulges in the shoulder and sidewall areas, as well as an "unusual tread appearance".

According to the manufacturer's estimates, 0.4% of the tires in the recalled batch are defective. All tires will be replaced free of charge, and the company emphasizes that it has no data on any incidents related to the defect.
