Bridgestone closes plant in Taiwan

The Bridgestone Corporation has announced that as part of its business transformation, it will cease production at its Sinjhuang (Taiwan) plant on May 11, 2026. The plant, which was opened in 1982 and has a daily production capacity of around 11,800 passenger and light truck tires, will result in 800 people losing their jobs, according to local media.

Bridgestone notes that the decision to stop production is due to the "adjustment of the global operational strategy and long-term market development forecasts", and the company will continue to operate in Taiwan, but will focus on sales and customer service. The manufacturer has also pledged to help former employees during their job search.

"In the future, Bridgestone will focus on expanding its sales and service capabilities, including the development of sales channels and strengthening partnerships with local distributors," the company said in a statement. "The product range will also be expanded to meet customer needs."

The company adds that "this new approach will enable more effective use of the global production network, while also ensuring stable supplies and increasing the competitiveness of products in the Taiwanese market".
