Bridgestone recalls 115 winter tires with incorrect labeling
Bridgestone is recalling 115 winter tires Bridgestone Blizzak 6 of size 235/40 R19 in the USA because they lack the marking that confirms certification by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), which means they do not meet the country's standards.
The recalled Blizzak 6 tires were manufactured between June 2 and June 22, 2024, at the plant in Tatabánya (Hungary), where winter tires of another Bridgestone model, Blizzak LM005, are also produced in the same size. Meanwhile, LM005 tires are already being sold in the USA and have all the necessary markings, whereas Blizzak 6 tires were not planned to be shipped to the country until mid-2025, which is why the corresponding molds were used.
In February 2025, the trading company Tire Rack reported that tires with incomplete markings had been delivered to the USA, after which an investigation was conducted and the recall procedure was initiated.
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) pointed out that without the DOT marking, buyers cannot be sure that the tires meet American standards in terms of technical characteristics and safety.
All tires will be replaced free of charge, and Bridgestone emphasizes that, apart from the incorrect marking, they meet all the requirements adopted in the USA.
