Apollo increases production capacity

Apollo Tyres, which recently announced the closure of the Vredestein plant in Enschede (Netherlands), has announced that it will invest 160 billion rupees (157 million euros) in expanding production capacity in India and Hungary.

According to Apollo's Financial Director, Gaurav Kumar, the production of products at the plant in Gyöngyöshalász (Hungary) will be increased by 4,000 passenger car tires per day, and the capacity of the enterprise in Chinnapanduru (Andhra Pradesh state, India) will grow in the same scale. The investment project in Hungary is expected to be completed in March 2026, and production will be transferred from the site in the Netherlands, which will be closed by the end of this year.

As Kumar explained, the Dutch plant currently produces around 500,000 tires per year, which is less than 10% of the capacity of the Hungarian plant, which is 6 million tires per year.

Negotiations with trade unions on the closure of the Enschede plant began in late April. The enterprise was opened in 1952, and, as Kumar noted, negotiations are ongoing, and so far, no changes have been made to the company's plans.
