Initially developed for powerful AMG versions of Mercedes models, the Yokohama Winter V907 tire inherited the engineering DNA designed for the highest dynamic loads. This is not just a winter tire - it's a control system designed to handle high torque, weight, and speed in snow, ice, and slush conditions. Its task is to transform the car's power into safe and predictable acceleration, braking, and cornering.
Synergy of flexibility and stiffness
The tire's design is based on the principle of adaptive stability. Developers implemented this through an innovative combination of materials in the carcass and compound composition. Special polymers and high rubber content in the rubber compound provide cryogenic flexibility, allowing the tread to accurately repeat the road's micro-profile for maximum grip. At the same time, reinforcing elements and an optimized sidewall design create a rigid bearing frame that effectively resists deformations at high speeds and lateral accelerations characteristic of aggressive driving.
Protection against aquaplaning and intelligent traction
The tread features a directional symmetric design with two key technological elements:
- a central rib with a monolithic structure performs a steering role, maintaining high accuracy of grip and responsiveness during maneuvers;
- two deep continuous grooves encircling the tire form powerful hydrochannels for instant removal of large amounts of water and snow slush. This minimizes the risk of hydroplaning, maintaining contact with the road surface at high speeds in thaw and rain conditions;
- a large part of the tread surface is saturated with thousands of complex-shaped lamellas. Their 3D structure provides mechanical locking, preventing excessive closure of tread blocks during acceleration and braking. This maintains pattern stability and thousands of micro-edges for biting into snow and ice. At the same time, the lamellas remain flexible, working like "suckers" on rolled snow and ice.
